Eynon’s of St.Clears, Britain’s Best butcher and Food Hall

Eynon’s of St Clears of Wales have walked away with the title of Butcher’s Plus Shop of the Year at the Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2007 awards, held at a lavish ceremony at London’s Claridge’s Hotel.

The Butcher’s Plus award is given to the UK butcher judged to be selling the widest range of foods, gifts and add-on services. And the judges said no butchers in this year’s Awards had more ‘Plus’ than this South Wales business. They described it as a store that consumers could truly explore for exciting and unusual foods. A wonderful display of food hampers packed in decorative hat boxes wowed the judges as did the thriving mail order and food gift business that supplements shops sales.

Eynon’s is run by Huw and Rhiannon Eynon and although there is a wide range of specialist delicatessen food and drink on display, 80% of turnover still comes from fresh meat sales.

The Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards are run by Meat Trades Journal. Editor Ed Bedington comments: “The butchery business continues to go from strength to strength but it also continues to evolve with diversification playing an important part. Businesses today succeed through sheer hard work and determination as illustrated by the Eynon’s. Well done to them and to all our finalists.”

Eynon’s were commended for it’s display of gift hampers, thriving mail order service, and general shop displays which entices a “WOW” factor when entering the store.

Huw Eynon (Director) and whose family have been in the butchery industry for over 54 years said: “We have won the Best in Wales award three times in the past, but this year they did away with the regions and put all the top shops to compete nationally. “We didn’t go to London with any expectations, so coming away with the top prize was exceptionally exciting.”
